This April, TrackGirlz continued to bring our mission to life by creating powerful spaces where girls could dream big, run fast, and step boldly into their athletic potential. Here’s how we showed up for the next generation of leaders this month:

TrackGirlz Community Event at Brutus Hamilton Invitational

Location: Cal Berkeley University, Berkeley, CA
Date: April 5, 2025

A moment for the next generation.

Nine fierce girls from elementary and middle schools across the Bay Area laced up and lined up for two heats of the 200m at the legendary Brutus Hamilton Invitational. This special TrackGirlz community event wasn’t just about the finish line—it was about the journey.

Our founder and Olympic Relay Coach Mechelle Lewis Freeman led the girls through warm-ups, offering energy, encouragement, and words of wisdom before they took to the track. The event was a celebration of each girl’s growth—on and off the track—highlighting confidence, community, and courage.

A huge thank you to Cal Athletics’ Cameron Institute for Student-Athlete Development and Cal Track & Field for their support in making this magical moment possible. We’re so proud of these girls, and we can’t wait to see where their dreams take them next.

FAST: Functional Assessment & Speed Training Workshop

Location:
Scottish Rite for Children Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, Frisco, TX
Date: April 18, 2025

FAST lived up to its name—and then some.
Hosted in partnership with Scottish Rite for Children, our one-day Functional Assessment & Speed Training (FAST) workshop brought together middle and high school girls ready to level up their performance.

Led by none other than Olympian and 2024 Olympic Relay Coach Mechelle Lewis Freeman, athletes participated in two dynamic sessions—one for returning athletes and one for newcomers—designed to empower every girl with the tools to run stronger and smarter.

Highlights included:

Every participant walked away with a clearer understanding of their physical strengths, areas for improvement, and the confidence to take their athletic performance to new heights.

We’re so grateful to our partners at Scottish Rite for Children for their continued support and commitment to empowering young athletes through education and innovation. For those who may not know, Scottish Rite for Children is a globally respected pediatric orthopedic center renowned for treating everything from sports injuries to complex conditions like scoliosis, clubfoot, and hip disorders. Their mission goes far beyond treatment—they’re committed to innovation, research, and empowering young people to move better, feel better, and live stronger. Their team of functional movement experts brought invaluable insight to FAST, helping each girl understand her body, avoid injury, and train smarter.

We’d also like to give a huge shoutout to New Balance for providing spikes for all the girls to complete their assessments in, and to Cigna Healthcare for generously funding the workshop through a grant that allowed girls to attend at no cost. Their support helped make this empowering day of speed, strength, and sisterhood possible.

TrackGirlz Book Giveaway

In April, we were also thrilled to celebrate the release of TeeTee’s World Adventure, the new children’s book by TeeTee Terry, which is now available on Amazon! She is an American sprinter who specializes in the 100 meters. She won gold in the 4x100m relay at the 2022 and 2023 World Athletics Championships, as well as at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Terry ran 10.99 seconds at 19, making her one of the fastest under-20 women, and also earned gold at the USATF U20 Championships and silver at the World U20 Championships

The book, co-authored with Dennis Vanasse, takes young readers through Terry’s Olympic journey, highlighting the core values of teamwork, resilience, and the joy of adventure. It’s a vibrant reminder that dreams are worth chasing, and every step along the journey matters.

April reminded us that when girls are given the tools and the opportunity, they rise. Here’s to building confidence, one stride at a time. Stay tuned for more empowering events this summer—and as always, keep showing up.
